TOP PAY, COMPANY PERFORMANCE AND CORPORATE GOVERNANCE.
- Authors

- Abstract
This article examines the determination of top directors salary using a sample of large British companies listed between 1983 and 1986. Attention has switched to the actual mechanisms by which senior executives are compensated, namely to the putative role played by corporate governance. The claims for the importance of corporate governance in shaping key economic variables has been little direct evidence to substantiate the claims. Hence, pay may rise more steeply with size because large companies require qualified managers.
