- Abstract
This document is a summary of a special issue of the journal "Universe" focused on top quark physics. The editors chose to emphasize recent results from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and discuss future prospects in the field, including the relation to cosmology. The top quark is an elementary particle with a high mass and unique properties. It is predominantly produced through QCD interactions at hadron colliders, but can also be produced through electroweak interactions. The study of the top quark allows for tests of quantum theory at high energy scales. The special issue covers various topics related to top quark physics, including tests of charge-parity symmetry, lepton-flavor conservation, and Lorentz-invariance violation. The analysis of data from the LHC has not yet provided any indication of new particles or interactions. The focus has shifted to quantifying the effects of hypothetical particles using the effective field theory approach. The issue also discusses the prospects for top quark measurements and new physics searches at future colliders. The editors emphasize the need for precision measurements and open discussion in the field.
