- Abstract
In recent years, the technology behind unmanned survey boats has advanced considerably, with an increasing number of applications in engineering construction. This study delves into the tasks and technical features of unmanned boats in oil and gas pipeline water-crossing engineering. By contrasting this method with traditional underwater topographic surveys, the shortcomings of the latter become evident. The working principles, technical features, and workflows of unmanned boats are analysed and highlighted. An application involving an LNG pipeline crossing a river serves as a case study, detailing the overall river crossing scenario overview, equipment used, and data collection strategy. Special attention is paid to two crucial stages in data processing: data inspection and correction. An analysis of both the data accuracy and operational efficiency was conducted. The findings underscore the superiority in the aspects of safety, accuracy, and efficiency of using unmanned boats for water surveys. The insights presented in this paper are invaluable for future applications of unmanned boats in similar projects.
