- Abstract
The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS) have launched the second phase of the Programme to Build Resilience to Food and Nutrition Insecurity in the Sahel (P2‐P2RS). This program aims to address the structural causes of food and nutrition insecurity in the Sahel region by improving productivity, income, and access to infrastructure and social services for vulnerable households. Phase 1 of the program, implemented between 2014 and 2022, saw significant achievements, and Phase 2 will cover nine countries and emphasize climate-smart initiatives. The AfDB has allocated $255.28m for the second phase, with other co-financiers also contributing. Additionally, the AfDB and the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) have launched a three-year support project to combat money laundering and terrorism financing in their member countries. The project will improve anti-money laundering and terrorism financing regimes and develop the capacity of GIABA member states. Brazil has officially joined the Lusophone Compact, an initiative working to accelerate private sector development in Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa. The AfDB has approved a partial credit guarantee to support Rwanda's mobilization of financing for green and social initiatives. The project will enable Rwanda to raise up to €200m from international commercial banks for various projects related to renewable energy, climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and more.
