SENEGAL: Budget 2024.
- Abstract
The Senegal government has released its budget for 2024, with a focus on sustainable and inclusive growth. Revenue forecasts for 2024 are projected to be 20% higher than in 2023, totaling CFA francs 4,915.2bn (US$8.2bn). Total expenditures for 2024 are expected to be CFA francs 5,755.4bn, representing an increase of CFA francs 613.5bn and 11.9% in relative value. The government aims to achieve structural transformation of the economy, ecological transition, strengthening of human capital, social protection, quality public services, and youth employment. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts a real GDP growth of 8.8% for 2024, driven by the start of oil and gas production. The budget also emphasizes the importance of strong institutions, peace, and meeting the demands of citizens. The budget deficit is projected to be CFA francs 840.2bn, or 3.9% of GDP, and will be financed through government loans and securities issued on the regional and international financial markets.
