- Abstract
Effect of a pre-season of training about august capacity of players of rugby xv The aim of this study was to analyze the peak velocity (PV), and distance covered (DP) achieved by semiprofessional rugby XV players in Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test (YYIRT) evaluation protocol over 17 weeks of training. The study was carried out with 15 male players between 20 and 32 years old. These players were divided in two groups: seven backs and eight forwards. The PV and DP values of these two groups were compared each other in three assessments (AV1, AV2, AV3) in different moments of training preseason. Statistical analysis was performed using ANOVA of repeated measurements (p<0.05) and the effect size (ES) calculation. There was no interaction between the independent variables analyzed in the study for PV (p = 0.42) and DP (p = 0.29). In general, there was a small gain effect for PV and for DP between AV1 and AV2 (ESPV: 0.45; ESDP: 0.30), a moderate effect between AV2 and AV3 (ESPV: 0.60; ESDP: 0.56), and, between AV1 and AV3, there was a large training effect in both variables (ESPV: 1.09, ESDP: 0.83). Therefore, the preseason training led to an increase in PV and DP gained in YYIRT by XV rugby players regardless of their tactical positioning. However, backs reached higher PV than forwards in the three performed assessments during this period, which indicates a better level of aerobic capacity for these players in comparison to forwards.
