- Abstract
Although men are pressured to achieve certain beauty standards, some consumption acts focused on male appearance are more socially legitimized than others, since they dialogue with hegemonic masculinity discourses. On this matters, the objective of this article is to analyze, based on the methodological assumptions of French Discourse Analysis, the discursive convocation to male consumption made by media productions that give skincare tips for men. We will discuss the way in which the discourses on corporal capital and gender are articulated in these productions. In analyzed corpus, it is possible to observe the articulation of compensatory discourses of masculinities and hyperbolic gender performativity’s that are activated as discursive forms of consumption convocation of cosmetics for men.
