- Abstract
PURPOSE: The purpose is to present the fi rst clinical results of toric intraocular lens (IOL) implantation for the period 2009-2013 for preexisting astigmatism correction and determine any postoperative rotation. PATIENTS AND METHODS: 119 eyes of 104 patients underwent uncomplicated phacoemulsifi cation and were implanted with an Acrysof © toric IOL. Uncorrected visual acuity, residual astigmatism, and postoperative rotation of the IOL were estimated six months after the operation. RESULTS: Uncorrected visual acuity was ≥16/20 in 112 of 119 eyes (94.1%) and ≥20/20 in 83 of 119 patients (69,74%). The mean toric IOL axis rotation was 1.5 ± 1.5° (range 0.7-5.5°) six months postoperation. CONCLUSION: The implanted one-piece hydrophobic acrylic toric IOLs have good stability, encourage a positive visual outcome and emerge as an attractive alternative for correction of refractive astigmatism.
