- Abstract
Remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema syndrome (RS3PE) is characterized by symmetrical tenosynovitis of the distal extremities with pitting edema of the dorsum of the hands and feet. It occurs with an acute onset in elderly patients aged over 50 and generally in male patients. Owing to the similar clinical fea- tures of late onset rheumatoid arthritis and polymyalgia rheumatica which seen in geriatric population, its differeantial diagnosis is important. Most patients respond dramatically to low dose gluco- corticoids. Although its etiology is unknown, the current agreement is that RS3PE is a form of paraneoplastic rheumatic syndrome. Therefore, screening for malignacy in these patients is important. In this article, we aimed to take attention to diagnosis and differential diagnosis of RS3PE.
