- Title
Staff Users and Overdue Fines in Nigerian Polytechnic Libraries.
- Authors
Edewor, Nelson
- Abstract
The article presents the results of research on overdue fees in Nigerian university libraries, as applied to university staff. An overview of related previous studies is provided, along with details of the research protocol, which involved questionnaires and oral interviews with library users at two Nigerian polytechnic universities. It was found that many staff users felt entitled to keep library materials past the due dates without paying a fine, although they realized that this would be denying the use of the materials to others. It is recommended that university librarians make more of an effort to enforce overdue fine policies evenhandedly, and the university administration should support them in such initiatives.
