- Abstract
The article examines the effects of exploitation on life history characteristics of California sheephead (Semicossyphus pulcher), a temperate protogynus labrid that inhibits near shore rocky environments from Central California to Baja California, Mexico. Using historical comparisons, the study compares collections of sheephead from three locations in 1998 with the data collected 20-30 years previously to ascertain fishery induced changes in life history traits. Results show that size-selective harvesting alters life histories of a temperate sex-changing fish. Other significant information relative to the matter is discussed.
