- Abstract
People's House is one of the leading institutions of the Republican history as the champions of the awakening. They took part in social and cultural development of the country as well as fulfilling an important task in delivering the values of the new Republic to popular masses. These were planned as educational and cultural homes calling for everybody regardless of any membership to the party as well as encouraging them to get acquainted with each other in accordance with the principles of the Republican's People Party (CHF). The Houses became active in 14 provinces on February 19th, 1932 aiming at raising a society with national consciousness, understanding, affection and devotion to the national ideal. In 1940's the Houses expanded their sphere especially through People's Rooms established in various provinces, cities and even in villages by delivering the light of contemporary science through various journals. People's House in Maraş province was established in 1934 and consisted of nine branches. Maraş Provincial Newspaper became the journal of People's House in 1936 aiming to spread its activities to popular masses from all segments. However, it was not able to achieve its initially planned superior goals due to the reasons including shortcomings in the income, frequent changes of the Chairs as well as experience of some misuses. The entire People's Houses were closed down by the Law 5830 of 8 August 1951 in the Democrat Party's rule and their entire property holdings were seized by the government.
