Off-Site Workers: At Home and Abroad.
- Authors
Metzger, Robert O.; Von Glinow, Mary Ann
- Abstract
The article focuses on the recent increase of off-site workers. Off-site workers can be defined as those professionals who are usually based in their home and are linked to their employer or customers by computer and telephone line. Commonly witnessed in service-based companies, the phenomenon of telecommuting by off-site workers has increased in industries such as commercial banking and insurance. The organizational benefits to employers considering the use of off-site employees are considered, such as reduced overhead costs, recruiting from a larger applicant pool, and less risk of unionization by employees.
