- Abstract
Abstraction of digital building models as a basis for sensor‐based maintenance management The maintenance management of infrastructure is a challenging task. Engineering structures like roads and bridges are characterized by long service lives of 100 years and more. Within the framework of the period of use, special requirements therefore arise for a life‐cycle‐oriented data organization that records information from both planning and construction, but especially from operation. For this purpose, operators usually have building management systems at their disposal that enable building‐related data organization. The use of new digital methods, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), can support the organization of data in particular and also the processes of cooperation in maintenance. The basis is formed by object‐oriented building models, which structure semantic information and enable links to further data platforms. The article provides a contribution on how geometrically abstract building models can already be used to intelligently structure data for maintenance processes. Geometric abstraction makes it possible to efficiently generate digital building models, especially for existing buildings, and to enrich them with semantic information. This can form the basis for linking information with other data platforms or for damage localization on the digital model.
