- Abstract
Rádio Senado Ondas Curtas - the Brazilian Senate's shortwave broadcast radio station - performs a public service informing its listeners and helping with their doubts. This study analyzes three letters sent by listeners to Rádio Senado. Understanding the listener as active and willing to interact with the information received, the study seeks to comprehend which elements from the information narratives give meaning to the message in the listener's social and cultural environment. From a detailed observation of listeners' reception, the research highlights the ways through which institutional, educational broadcast radio works in Brazil. Many Rádio Senado listeners live in the country's most remote areas; the radio station broadcasts at 5990 kHz frequency, on 49 meters, to reach the people of Brazil's countryside.
