- Abstract
In her ancient historical dissertation, Eva Christina Käppel examines the royal decrees (prostagmata) of the Macedonian dynasty of the Ptolemies, who ruled over Egypt from 332 to 30 BC. The work is divided into two main parts: 1. The subject areas of Ptolemaic legislation and 2. The origin, production, and impact of the royal decrees. In the first part, six areas targeted by the prostagmata are discussed in detail: military affairs, securing royal revenues, quality management, additions and improvements in the judicial and administrative systems, religious policy, and amnesties. The second part consists of four chapters on administrative and formal aspects of the prostagmata. The book includes an extensive bibliography and appendices with concordances to relevant source editions, as well as indexes of persons, places, and things.
