- Abstract
The book "Niccolò di Lorenzo della Magna and the Social World of Florentine Printing, ca. 1470–1493" by Lorenz Böninger examines the early history of printing in Florence. The author primarily analyzes the socio-economic aspects of early printing based on sources from the "Economic Court" of the Mercanzia, the Podestà, and the notaries. This includes the establishment of the new technique on the Arno, the first printers and their societies, as well as the financing model of printing. The printer Niccolò di Lorenzo, who began his career in Florence, played a significant role in the development of printing. The book also includes a list of the works printed by Niccolò di Lorenzo, as well as editions of documents from that time.
