- Abstract
The "pleasure principle" - a Freudian concept as well known and quoted as it is misunderstood - has a firm position in the history of psychoanalysis. "Pleasure" on the other hand does not have its own specific status in our discipline. In an attempt to investigate its complexity, I propose revisiting the opposition between sensual and sexual, as evoked by Sigmund Freud in the 1911 work Contributions to the Psychology of Love, although he uses other terms, speaking of "two currents": one of "tenderness" - characterized by the constan-cy and continuity of affections in the relationship - and the other "sensual" (but we would say passionate today), based instead on the means of climax and discharge of the drive.
