- Abstract
The present article focuses on the theme needs of the family/caregiver regarding the communication of death, giving relevance to the skills/attitudes of nurses in reporting this news and how to overcome the influence of the experience of loss and grief healthy. Objective: To identify the needs felt by the family / caregiver in the face of news of death and understand how communication can be a strategy to overcome loss of life and experience a healthy mourning. Methodology: To produce this systematic review, was used the methodology PI [C] OD and selected 6 research articles from an initial sample of 79, obtained from CINAHL database.Results: There were many needs identified by family/caregiver in the face of death, especially among these, the need for a careful communication, the ambivalence of feelings and respect to the deceased relative. The way we communicate was considered so important to experience the best as possible the process of mourning, as a clear and open communication, taking into account the analysis of the receivers of such communication, facilitates the way family members/caregivers live their grief and loss. Conclusions: The main conclusions obtained from this research show that the loss, their grieving process perspective affects the family system, leading to its reorganization and redistribution of roles. It is function of the nurse to identify the needs of affected families to provide better monitoring and support, so that it can overcome the loss and experience grief in a healthy way, respecting their customs and religious beliefs. Nurses should develop and deepen their communication skills (training) in order to meet the needs of families/caregivers in a perspective of unity and multiculturalism.
