- Abstract
The utilization of supply chain and logistics principles in agriculture and crop harvesting is often overlooked, with a majority of research focusing on retail supply. This paper explores the potential application of these concepts in food supply chain, spanning from the farmer to the supermarket. By incorporating principles such as takt time, lead time, and cycle time, agricultural operations can be optimized. Takt time synchronizes production with customer demand to ensure a smooth flow, while cycle time assesses unit production efficiency. Lead time plays a crucial role in managing customer expectations by reducing the time between order placement and product delivery, thereby improving customer satisfaction and overall supply chain performance. Application of these factors to rice production in Indonesia is discussed.
