- Title
Global city makers: Economic actors and practices in the world city network.
- Authors
Farrell, Kyle
- Abstract
If global cities are the engines of the world economy, then who is it that is operating the control room? For example, examining the cases of Mexico City and Hamburg, Parnreiter shows how professional service firms, as the preeminent global city makers, have influenced how resources in global commodity chains are created and distributed. First, unlike most existing global city research, this book goes beyond the usual suspects (New York, London and Tokyo) and instead incorporates examples from emerging global cities (Mumbai and Mexico City) as well as a number of second-tier cities (Hamburg and Amsterdam).
