- Title
The Making of a Stylite Scholar.
- Authors
Stroumsa, Guy
- Abstract
Protestant in Dublin, Brown remained Irish in Oxford - where it is thanks to his father's quiet financial sacrifices that he was able to study. Intellectual boundaries, it seems, were more easily crossed than Faculty barriers: Brown hardly mentions scholars from Classics or from Theology - except for a brief appearance of Henry Chadwick's towering figure in Christ Church, at a Patristic Conference. One other regret: early on, Brown had studied Hebrew and written an essay on ancient Judaism.
