- Abstract
Dry and warm weather during the growing season in recent years, especially in continental growing areas, has played a significant role in reducing sugar beet yields. One of the ways to decrease this negative effect is the pre-sowing application of the hydrogel on seed. The three-factor experiment was performed in lowland field conditions by the method of split-plots. In this experiment, a positive, high significant (P ≤ 0.01) effect of hydrogel application on root yields (+ 10.71%) was found. The selection of suitable genetic material is one of the basic elements of cultivation that contribute to the success of cultivation. The variety significantly contributed to the results of sugar content (P ≤ 0.05), the effect on the root yield was highly significant (P ≤ 0.01). The Kosmas variety was characterized by higher quality values, on the contrary, the Brian variety reached higher values of quantitative parameters. The results of this experiment confirmed that the application of hydrogel to seeds is justified in sustainable cultivation systems in dry and warm temperate areas. The value of these results is increased by the implementation of the experiment in natural field conditions.
