The article presents the examination of determinants of relentless regional political cleavages in post- Communist Ukraine. The degree of significance of the role of culture is compared to ethnic, economic, and religious factors in the regional divisions. It shows the pattern of these regional differences remained comparatively steady from 1991 to 2006.
