- Abstract
This article examines the epidemic of bubonic plague that occurred in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the period 1900-1906, from public strategies to combat it. If at the beginning, the government has already used conservative measures to tackle epidemics were the sanitary laws reformulation, the city sanitation and especially the hunt for mice that were successful in extinguishing the bubonic plague in the Federal Capital. The main sources for this analysis are the reports of the General Directorate of Public Health and the Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs.
