- Abstract
The article discusses the 16th century Jewish historiographer and astronomer David Gans' perspective on the Jewish calendar's significance for modern astronomy and the relationship between the Jewish calendar and the Christian Gregorian calendar reform of 1582. An overview of Gans' book "Nehmad ve-naim," (or "A Handbook of Astronomy"), including the impact of the Gregorian reform on the book, is provided.
