- Abstract
Preterm Low Birth Weight (PLBW) of newborn is a major public health concern worldwide. It represents one of single largest condition in global burden of diseases with high mortality and morbidity (WHO, 2008). Periodontal disease is associated with chronic gram negative infection. Periodontal infection is able to cause preterm low birth weight either via indirect mechanism (involving inflammatory products) or direct bacterial assault on THE amnion. Here a retrospective clinical study was conducted on 60 post-partum female, at Uma Medical Related Institute, Kolkata; between August, 2015 and July, 2016; to evaluate whether maternal periodontal infection had any bearing on preterm low birth weight infants.
