- Title
"SERMONS SPEAK HISTORY: RABBINIC DILEMMAS IN INTERNMENT BETWEEN METZ AND AUSCHWITZ.
- Authors
Farbstein, Esther
- Abstract
This article examines a rabbinic manuscript containing sermons and other compositions written by Rabbi Moshe Kahlenberg during the Holocaust in the La Lande internment camp in France. From the accounts, it is determined that rabbis addressed congregations at the dramatic junctures during the Holocaust. The documents offer a view of rabbinic leadership during the Holocaust, of the characteristics of sermons delivered during the Holocaust, and the status of the Jews in Western Europe at that time.
