The article focuses on the construction of a credit conditions index (CCI) that is free of criticism because it controls for the effects of the economic environment in Great Britain. The CCI is constructed for households between 1976 and 2001. It is assumed that there is an unobserved common influence (credit conditions) in each of ten credit indicators.
