- Abstract
The article focuses on the scientific developments to produce more food to supply additional consumption due to the predicted nine billion increase in population. Jurgen Logemann of BASF SE says that the company has developed the first drought-tolerant maize plant to provide yield stability to farmers in times of scarcity in water supply. It mentions that an initiative to provide fund to plant scientists was launched by the U.S. Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).
