- Title
OpenAI boss looking to invest more in fusion.
- Abstract
The UK's nuclear output has reached its lowest level since 1982, with nuclear energy supplying only 13% of the country's electricity. Nuclear salaries are expected to rise due to limited talent in the market. France plans to construct eight new nuclear plants, in addition to the six already announced. Global nuclear power production is predicted to reach its highest level ever in 2026, with an estimated 2,959 TWh of generation. China and Russia are the technology providers for 70% of reactors currently under construction. OpenAI boss Sam Altman supports the development of nuclear fusion to meet the energy requirements of future artificial intelligence technologies. The UK's National Physical Laboratory (NPL) plans to build a new neutron measurement facility to support nuclear energy, defense, and fusion research. EDF Energy will invest £1.3 billion in the UK's operating nuclear power plants and extend the lives of the four Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (AGR) plants.
