- Abstract
This article discusses the challenges of scaling up photocatalytic advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) for the treatment of wastewater. While AOPs have shown promise in laboratory settings, their large-scale implementation has been limited due to the lack of control and automation strategies. The article explores the use of intelligent control systems, such as neural networks and fuzzy logic control, to optimize AOPs. The authors propose a fuzzy control system that uses pH as a control variable to regulate the doses of reagents in the AOP. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of the control algorithm in achieving maximum nutrient content in the treated water. The article emphasizes the importance of acquiring deep knowledge about the plant and using Programmable Logic Controllers for scaling AOPs to industrial environments.
