- Abstract
The article presents the case studies of Johannesburg, South Africa and Ibadan, Nigeria on the recent trends in urban space partitioning due to the increased crime rate. The positive effects of road closures such as community development, local governance and security are discussed. The negative effects such as mobility and traffic jams are discussed. The usage of CCTV and alarm systems technologies with participation of residents in associations is suggested for neighbourhood protection.
