The article offers information concerning the Desert Laboratory on Tumamoc Hill, Tucson, Arizona which was established by the Carnegie Institution of Washington in 1903. it notes that the desert laboratory was the site of pioneering research into the biology and ecology of desert plants and animals. It also mentions that Daniel T. MacDougal, who became the first director, gave the laboratory a national reputation until he transferred his research projects to a second laboratory.
