- Abstract
The article reports on the plan of the Indian government to promote and double the worth of the technical textile industry of the country. The plan for the industry is based on a study about special applications textiles used in industries, packaging and automobiles conducted by Tata Economic Consultancy Services (TECS). Included in the plan is to establish centers of excellence in major textile regions in the country. The Synthetic and Art Silk Manufacturing Industries Research Association (SASMIRA) was chosen as the nodal agency to accelerate the growth of the industry.
