- Abstract
In this paper, a compact six-channel optical demultiplexer and coupler have been designed using a novel photonic crystal resonator for Intermediate Frequency Over Fiber (IFoF) in Fifth Generation (5G) networks. The demultiplexer and coupler differ from the existing work with the introduction of defected pentagon and trapezium structured resonator and its positioning in the IFoF enabled 5G heterogeneous fiber wireless network. Point defects and displacement of photonic crystal rods have been introduced in these resonators and the structure of the waveguide is altered to exhibit the demultiplexer and coupler design. The proposed demultiplexer operates in S and C band and the coupler functions in C and L band. The footprint of the demultiplexer and coupler is found to be 270 µm2. The minimum and maximum quality factor of the demultiplexer is found to be 1823 and 3422, respectively. The maximum and minimum cross-talk of the demultiplexer using pentagon resonator is found to be −10 and −34 dB, respectively.
