- Abstract
Bladder cancer is a common and potentially deadly cancer, with its incidence increasing in developed countries. The diagnosis of bladder cancer is based on transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) and histologic examination. The Vesical Imaging Reporting and Data System (VI-RADS) is a scoring system based on bladder multi-parametric MRI (mp-MRI) that helps predict muscle invasion. VI-RADS has been validated by researchers and shows promising results in terms of diagnostic performance. It is primarily recommended in the pre-TURBT and diagnostic TURBT settings. Future directions include using VI-RADS to predict BC grade and aggressiveness, as well as therapy response. A recent study found that VI-RADS can predict 1- to 5-year recurrence of bladder cancer, although its predictive value decreases over time. However, the study had limitations, and further research is needed to validate the results.
