- Abstract
This paper derives a new family of continuous probability distribution based on the Whittaker functions which include the product of some well known continuous distributions. We have also defined a class of continuous probability distributions based on the generalized Pearson differential equation which follows as a special case of our general results. Some characteristics of the new distribution are defined. It is observed that the new distribution is unimodal, skewed to the right and carries most of the properties of skewed distributions. It is hoped that the findings of the paper will be useful for researchers in different fields like environmental science, life testing, reliability theory, traffic data, among others.
