WHAT'S GOOD FOR THE GOOSE…THE ISRAELI SUPREME COURT, FOIE GRAS, AND THE FUTURE OF FARMED ANIMALS IN THE UNITED STATES.
- Authors
Sullivan, Mariann; Wolfson, David J.
- Abstract
The article discusses the 2003 decision of the Israeli Supreme Court to prohibit regulations on the force-feeding of geese for production of foie-gras, and, ultimately abolish its industry. The authors, then, examine the factors which made the court come up with that decision despite its huge economic and cultural impact. They also consider any lessons gleaned from that decision, which will illuminate the steps that might be taken in U.S. toward meaningful reform in farm animal treatment.
