- Abstract
This study aims to investigate the effect of education on economic growth in Turkey over the period of 1960-2018 using the Fourier-Shin cointegration test and dynamic least square (DOLS) estimator. According to results of the study, the Fourier-Shin cointegration test shows a long-term relationship between vocational high school graduates, university graduates and economic growth. Moreover, the long-term coefficients obtained with the DOLS estimator indicate that university education positively affects economic growth. The increase in university graduates supports economic growth. However, the positive coefficient of vocational high school education is statistically insignificant and quite low. Therefore, it can be said that graduates of vocational high schools in Turkey do not contribute enough to production. Consequently, university education should continue to be supported, and vocational high school education should be improved.
