- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the diurnal variation of chlorine monoxide (CIO) using the Superconducting Submillimeter-Wave Limb-Emission Sounder (SMILES) on the International Space Station. The study is the first observation of the diurnal variation of CIO from the stratosphere up to the mesosphere. Results show that integrating SMILES CIO observation opens a way for the CIO investigation in mesopause.
