- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses why and how American nonprofit organizations National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and American Water Works Association (AWWA) came to work together on fire hydrant couplings. The launch of the process of establishing a national standard to solve hydrants problem in 1905 including standardizing the threads is explored. The decision of NFPA and AWWA to develop the national standard using the more common 7½ threads per inch for hoses and hydrants is also tackled.
