- Abstract
The article reviews initiatives, acts, and changes to canon law effected by various bodies of the Catholic Church during 2009. It notes that Pope Benedict XVI lifted the excommunication of four bishops ordained in 1988 by archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, who was not authorized to do so. The article mentions that the Pope also established personal ordinariates designed to integrate members of the Anglican Communion into the Catholic Church through promulgation of the apostolic constitution "Anglicanorum coetibus." It also describes several amendments to the Code of Canon Law of 1983, including to canons 1008, 1009, 1086, 1117, and 1124.
