- Authors
Winkler, Albert
- Abstract
The article looks at the Swiss Federal Charter of 1291, a document that unified the Swiss states of Uri, Schwyz, and Nidwalden. It provides a brief history of the Swiss states in the 13th century, focusing on pressure from the Austrian Habsburg Family and alliance between Swiss states. The physical characteristics, content, and origins of the Charter, as well as forgery theories, are examined. Later additions to the Swiss state are looked at as well.
