Progress toward a dental vaccine.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the research conducted at the Institute of Dental Research in the University of Alabama, Birmingham, Alaska regarding the effect of vaccination on tooth decay prevention. The study has found that a vaccine which is not injected but swallowed can prevent decay of tooth. Trials in several human volunteers have shown that a vaccine of killed bacteria can stimulate the production of salivary antibody that is needed to fight tooth decay.
