- Abstract
In the book "Data and Democracy at Work: Advanced Information Technologies, Labor Law, and the New Working Class" by Brishen Rogers, the author explores how evolving workplace technologies affect workers' interests and enable employers to undermine workers' ability to form organizations and act collectively. Rogers argues that companies have used their legal and technological powers to suppress workers' associational power, leading to lower wages and deteriorating working conditions. The book draws on various scholarly literature and engages with transnational communities of theorists, highlighting the impact of technology on labor law and the political economy of work. Rogers proposes reforms to improve workers' ability to shape workplace practices and capture a fairer share of the benefits from technological innovation. However, the adoption of these proposals in the United States would require significant political change.
