- Abstract
The article assesses the significance of Bay City Experiment, a five-year study of the teacher aide proposal, on the improvement of education in Bay City, Michigan. The study was conducted in eight public schools. In this report, the author interviewed eight teacher aides, the teachers whom they assisted, the principals of the schools, the elementary supervisor and the superintendent of the schools. The author observed that aides exhibited considerable competence, poise and seemed deeply interested in children. It is noted that the procedures and learning activities in the rooms where aides were employed varied as widely as the personalities of the teachers in charge.
