- Abstract
The above-ground net primary production of a Juncetum gerardi was analysed by repeated clippings during the vegetation period. The rate of disappearance of dead material was also determined. The annual above-ground primary production was calculated according to various methods. The maximum above-ground biomass + current dead material was 324 g m-2, the sum of species maxima 363 g m-2, the sum of all increases in biomass + current dead material ca 400 g m-2, and the primary production as the mean of various summation methods ca 430 g m-2. The rate of disappearance of dead material reached its peak value In the July–August period with nearly 16 mg g-1 day-1. Three phonological groups of growth were distinguished: 1. Main growth in the beginning of the vegetation period, 2. growth during the whole vegetation period but with maximum in summer, and 3. growth divided into two periods, one in early summer and one in late summer and autumn.
