- Title
THE TOO FRIENDLY JUDGE? SOCIAL NETWORKS AND THE BENCH.
- Authors
Gray, Cynthia
- Abstract
The article focuses on the November 9, 2009 judicial ethics advisory opinion suggesting that social networking among judges and lawyers reasonably conveys negative implication to others. The Florida Committee emphasized the need for extreme cautiousness to ensure that the participation of judges and lawyers in social networking does not violate the Code of Judicial Conduct. It adds that judges must assess whether the level of closeness of online social relationship would require the disclosure of information or judicial recusal. The Ethics Committee of Kentucky Judiciary says that judges may participate in social networking sites and be friends with individuals who appear before the judge in court.
