- Title
Beyond Translation: The Work of the Judsons in Burma.
- Authors
Pleasants, Phyllis Rodgerson
- Abstract
The article gives insight into the life and work of Baptist translators Adoniram and Ann Judson in Burma. Adoniram Judson finished one still-revered translation of the complete Bible in 1835. According to the author, because of contextual factors, the question has been raised as to whether the Judson translation is indeed a vernacular translation. The author states that the Judsons believed they were translating in the vernacular of their intended audience, Burman Buddhists.
